About Meriel

Meriel and Louis.

Meriel Chapman

Meriel teaches yoga in Bude, on the North Cornwall coast, where she shares her home with Louis, her 7 year old son. She began yoga at the age of 16 and was introduced to Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga whilst travelling with her mother in India. These first Mysore style classes, which were held in a clearing in the jungles of Kerela, had a profound influence on Meriel and she has had a hunger to learn more and has been practicing ever since.

She completed her British Wheel of Yoga teacher-training course under the guidance of Christopher Gladwell. Christopher is a highly intelligent and imaginative teacher who believes in practicing yoga safely and with maximum awareness. He is also keen on both spiritual and physical progress, so, where appropriate, he encourages his students to challenge their comfort zones and unhealthy behaviour patterns. He is one of the few teachers who has been blessed to teach by Sri K Pattabhi Jois, one of the founders of Ashatnaga Vinyasa Yoga.

Whilst Meriel has explored a variety of different styles of yoga, her passion (in both her own practice and teaching) remains heavily influenced by Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. Her classes are relaxed and fun as well as being focused and energetic. She loves teaching and feels grateful to her students for their commitment to yoga and the lessons they offer her.

In addition to her British Wheel of Yoga teachers qualification, Meriel has an International Baccalaureate diploma from Exeter college and a degree in Social Anthropology from the School of Oriental and African Studies. She has studied jewellery making with her mother, Charmian Harris (whose work may be seen by clicking here) and is in the process of starting her own jewellery workshop.
